McGee's was some of the best Cajun food I had while in Louisiana. And the location gives you the "real" bayou experience! I took a friend there because we were determined to have a "bayou adventure" (she was visiting from Seattle and wanted the southern experience). McGee's outdid our expectations! The location is awesome- way out on the spillway, but not too far from Lafayette so going to dinner and back doesn't take too long. And the setting! It looks like a rustic, mansion-sized wooden shack that is right over the water. We were there at night, so the cricket noises and calm waters really added to the bayou effect. The only thing missing was some moonshine and a banjo! Inside, the staff was super friendly. There was some live music which was awesome. Our dinner was AMAZING. Best fried Cajun food ever. Well worth the money (our entrees were $20 each). My friend and I were completely satisfied with the experience. The food plus the location/atmosphere definitely equaled the Ultimate Bayou Adventure.

We had a party of 9 that took the Basin tour today. Even though it was cold we all enjoyed the information and beauty of the basin. Mr. Curtis made our trip memorable and his humor was a great addition to our trek. I would recommend it to anyone who has visitors from out of town, old and young alike.

Absolutely horrible service! We booked a reservation for 4 people days in advance, arrived at the shop and paid for our seats. While we were in the bathroom have our seats away and told us they were over booked. So they gave us a refund in cash (even though we paid with a credit card) and we left. While walking back to the car to drive the 2 hours back to New Orleans a nice couple told us about Turtles down the road where we enjoyed a great air boat tour. Don't waste your time at McGees.

I witnessed one of the worker being abusive to a small frail kitten. He picked it up by the back leg and swung it around and tossed it out the door, all the while the kitten was screaming with pain. I ran across the room to stop him but was too late. I reported the guy to the owner and confronted the scumbag but he was not remorseful stating the animals around there are a nuisance. I would never return to this place!

We booked a cabin and a tour with McGee's. I'd love to tell you how it was but we didn't get to go to either. We showed up at McGee's and it was locked up tight and closed. When we booked they did not tell us there was any time constraint for showing up and, being a bar, we didn't think this would be an issue. Thus at the last moment we had to find a different hotel in town. The second star is for them not charging us for this. We stayed at the Holiday Inn instead. So we called them the next morning because we were booked for the tour. We were the only people booked for it so they dissuaded us from coming and were going to charge us $40 each, double what they state on the site. We went with Cajun Country Swamp Tours instead and they were great. NOTE: Though it's not obvious on the website, this would be a kind of creepy and desolate place to stay. When they close there is NO ONE anywhere nearby, That's what some people want, but I think it should be more obviously stated!

took the airboat tour and all I can say is WOW....we took an airboat tour in the Everglades a long time ago and it was cool and this is on the same level...it's winter and they'd been a freeze so not a lot of greenery but the guide found baby Gators for us to look at and we were able to take tons of great pix. The music is the restuarant was great. We didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food. Bathrooms were clean and that's truly appreciated.

Went here for the Bayou Teche Brewing Brews Cruise. Awesome experience. Learned so much about the Atchafalaya Basin all the while drinking some amazing beers. Beautiful scenery! We didn't get a chance to eat here. Next time!

I was a little disappointed in the tour as it was more like a boat ride. The guide seemed local and we did see an alligator but not much else. There were lots of birds and a few other tidbits but I would look for another tour. There were only 6 of us on the 1:00pm tour on Sunday. The restaurant was nearly empty even though they had live music but the meal prices seemed high. There was not much action here either so I passed on the food.

McGee's is so many things... a boat landing, a souvenir shop, a bar, a place to go on a swamp tour of the amazing Atchafalaya Basin and a place where you can rent a houseboat. McGee's has been written up in Southern Living and Travel & Leisure. It's a pretty famous place. The restaurant serves up traditional favorites - etouffe, bisque, macque choux, poboys and boiled crawfish to name a few. I went tonight with my mom, dad and sister. Even though I'm from this part of the state, I still did some souvenir shopping to take some cool postcards and t-shirts back home to Austin. I had a shrimp poboy, salad, stuffed potato and shared an order of bread pudding with my sister. The food is incredible. I cannot get food like this where I live now. So I gorged myself but didn't feel guilty about it for a second. Any time of day you can pull up and see tons of people along the shore coming in or going out. The Basin Swamp Tours is an awesome trip where you get to see a lot of wildlife (egrets and most definitely alligators and snakes) and indigenous greenery. The guest cabin houseboats float on the shore of the Atchafalaya at the Landing.

i didn't eat here so my stars are all reserved for the swamp tour. fantastic and considering the cost was $20 for over an hour, i would say it was a deal. our captain was knowledgeable about the area and atchafalaya is stunning. new orleans isn't the only place worthy of falling in love with in louisiana.
